|
| | My Son Won't Leave The Driveway Without Setting The GPS First. Last week, rushing to soccer practice, Mehar wouldn't let me pull out of the driveway until the address was in the GPS. Ten kilometers. Thirty minutes. He knew exactly when he'd arrive — and he was completely at ease. | We set a GPS for a thirty-minute drive to soccer. Most of us have never set one for the next thirty years. |
Retirement is no different than that drive — except the stakes are your family's future. You need a destination, a distance, and a clear route, set as early as possible. So we made a short video about it.

The destination doesn't set itself. Here's what the newest numbers show about Canadians still searching for theirs. |

Retirement isn't disappearing for Canadians — but for a growing number, it's arriving later, and often not by choice. |
15.2% |
labour force participation rate for Canadians 65+ in 2025 — a record high, roughly 1.2 million seniors still working
36% |
of Canadians say they're unlikely to ever hit their own retirement savings target
75% |
of Canadians aged 55–64 have $100,000 or less saved for retirement |
None of these families set out to work into their seventies. Most simply never set the GPS early enough to see where the road was actually heading. Sources: Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey, 2025–2026; BMO 2026 Annual Retirement Survey (Pollara Strategic Insights); Benefits Canada |

| 💰 | Canadians Now Say They Need $1.7 Million To Retire. |
| That's up from $1.54 million just a year ago, according to BMO's 2026 Annual Retirement Survey. In Alberta, the number sits at roughly $1.66 million. In British Columbia, it's over $2.2 million. | Fewer than 10% of Canadians actually retire with $1 million saved. The average retiree has closer to $272,000 — against that $1.7 million goal. |
The gap isn't the target — it's the missing route. A $1.7 million goal is reachable, but only with a plan mapped out well before the destination is due. |
